(Florence, ca. 1540 – Rome, c. 1596)

Portrait of a Young Lady

Oil on panel

3 5/8 inches (9.2 cm.) in diameter

Suida-Manning Collection, New York until 1996
Private Collection, USA, 1996 – 2011

This tondo portrait is painted on and within a turned wooden locket with an integral painted frame, which originally would have had a wooden cover.   The depiction of this elegant young lady is typical of Zucchi’s portrait style, seen in independent portraits and in miniature in works such as the Allegory of the Golden Age in the Uffizi.  The attribution of the present portrait to Zucchi was first made by Federico Zeri.
